The most requested look in our consultations this year is also the oldest trick in the drapery book: two layers on one window. A sheer inner layer — something like our Veil Linen — softens daylight and gives you daytime privacy without closing the room off. The outer layer does the heavy lifting: color, texture, and real darkness when you want it.
Three practical notes from our workroom. First, hang both layers from the same ceiling track with a double carrier, or pair a track with a rod mounted an inch further out. Second, let the sheer run slightly wider than the opaque layer so it never peeks out at the edges. Third, keep the two layers in the same temperature family — a warm ivory sheer under a cool charcoal panel reads accidental rather than layered.
If you are starting from scratch, order swatches of both layers together. Fabrics change each other at the window: a sheer that looks plain on its own can turn a flat panel into something with depth.
