Panel count is the difference between drapery that looks tailored and drapery that looks stretched. The rule we sew to: each panel covers roughly 27 inches of window at double fullness, and every window gets at least two panels so it can open from the center.
So a 60-inch window needs three panels; a 96-inch wall of glass needs four. Our product configurator runs this math for you the moment you enter a width — the panel count you see in your quote is the panel count our workroom cuts.
Why double fullness? Flat fabric shows every seam and hangs like a bedsheet. Two-to-one fullness lets pleats keep their shape from morning to night, which is most of what people mean when they say drapery looks custom.
